Hi there, fellow adventurers!
Let me take you on a journey – one that involves wheels,
water, and a whole lot of love. If you’ve never thought about combining an RV
trip with a riverboat ride, buckle up (both your seatbelt and lifejacket!) and
let me share our family's unforgettable experience in the heart of Texas.
The Open Road: Family, Fun, and an RV
Ever since I was a child, I dreamt of seeing the world in an
RV. The idea of waking up to a different view every day, the close-knit
moments, and the thrill of the unknown – it's a dream many of us share. But
with family life’s usual hustle and bustle, that dream kept getting pushed to
the backburner... until this summer.
We packed up the kids, the dog, and way too many bags of
marshmallows, and hit the road in our rented RV. Destination? San Antonio,
Texas.
The City of Surprises: San Antonio’s Charm
San Antonio greeted us with its blend of historic beauty and
modern appeal. But we were on a mission: The River Walk, a world-renowned urban
waterway, which was not just our destination but our main event.
The kids were excited, the dog was curious, and we
were...well, trying to figure out where to park an RV in a city center! After a
few adventures in parking (and let’s not talk about that really low bridge), we
settled in and made our way to the heart of the city.
Setting Sail: Our Riverboat Experience
As we strolled along the River Walk, with its beautiful
bridges, stone pathways, and array of twinkling lights reflecting off the
water, we stumbled upon the riverboat rides. Now, we'd heard about these
cruises, but nothing could have prepared us for the actual experience.
We boarded our vibrant boat, piloted by a guide whose
knowledge was rivaled only by his humor. As the boat gently glided through the
water, we were regaled with tales of San Antonio's history, peppered with jokes
that even made our ever-so-cool teenager chuckle.
We floated under bridges, past charming cafes, and through
tunnels alive with echoes and giggles. But it wasn’t just the sights and sounds
that captured our hearts; it was the moments in between. The kids, usually
glued to their screens, were pointing out ducks, making up stories about the
sculptures we passed, and laughing heartily at our guide's antics.
The highlight? The moment our youngest exclaimed, "This
is better than any video game!" Cue the silent fist bump between me and my
spouse.
Reeling it In
Our RV trip to San Antonio, combined with the magic of the
riverboat ride, was not just a vacation. It was a vivid reminder of the beauty
that lies in shared experiences, in unplugging, in watching a city's story
unfold through the eyes of a river.
To all the families out there looking to create
unforgettable memories: Pack up, hit the road, and let the waters of San
Antonio wash over your senses. Your adventure on wheels and water awaits!
Until our next adventure, Signe Douglas
